Sweep and clean the epdm or corrugated metal roof before applying the ModSnap.
Once swept , clean a 3 to 5" area approximately 12 to15" from the mate-line with rubbing alcohol or something that dries immediately and leaves no residue.
This will remove any grease or grime that may hinder a good bonding of the male ModSnap to the surface
Snap a chalk line the entire length of the building to start. Be sure to discard excessive chalk on the line by popping it in the air away from the intended area before snapping it on the surface, to avoid contaminating the primer.
Clean the flat surface of every aluminum male ModSnap part with the Mule-Hide tape primer using the Scotch-Brite® pads in a circular motion.
Using Scotch-Brite® pads, the roof surface must be thoroughly cleaned with Mule-Hide Tape Primer. Clean in a circular motion on an approximate 4-5” wide strip outside of chalk line (away from mate-line).
When primer is dry to the touch you can apply the 60 mil Specially Modified Butyl Sealant tape to the roof surface.Starting at one end, slowly pull out approximately 12” of the tape and line up the paper backing ½” from the chalk line. (Stay off the chalk line as this will contaminate the primer.)
Once tape is applied, using a 2” hand roller; apply pressure to the entire length of the tape by rolling it back and forth and side to side. Do not over press while rolling as this can cause a kink in the tape and will not allow a completely flat surface for the ModSnap aluminum male part to attach to.
Peel the liner off the tape. Do not peel liner from tape until you are ready to install male ModSnap as this will provide a sticky environment for dust and debris to attach to.
Install male ModSnap to Modified Butyl Sealant tape.Take one 6’ length of the male aluminum ModSnap and starting 1/8’ from one end, install the flat side of the male part over the tape carefully aligning with the tape as you go.
When the aluminum male parts are butted from end to end, a small amount of lap sealant caulking should be placed in-between the male ModSnap ends that are connecting..For best results insert screws in male ModSnap part after each part is laid onto Specially Modified Butyl Sealant tape. Starting at the first male part 1/2” from the end, fasten with screw and neoprene washer to the centerline groove of your aluminum male ModSnap.
You only need a small amount of the lap sealant material between the parts keeping the male ModSnap parts as tight as possible to each other, this will prevent water intrusion.Continue fastening a screw every 12”. There are seven screws per 6’ ModSnap male part.
When the aluminum male ModSnap has been installed on the units to be connected, you are now ready to install the poly sheeting. USE REINFORCED POLY. Standard poly could fail under weight of water and is easily punctured.
As an added protection, apply a 3/8" bead of Mule-Hide lap sealant to the outside edge of the aluminum ModSnap. This will also provide a barrier to water. The MH caulk is self leveling DO NOT TROWEL Use the matching color to the roof surface i.e. black or white.
ModSnap- a reusable, poly sheeting fastening system for temporary yard capping and side wrapping to protect the poly sheeting on th building and provide a barrier to the elements during storage.
